Changes, Goals and BookTube

Hello there!

It’s been awhile since I wrote on this old blog, but I have some exciting goals in 2019 and I thought this would be a good way to kick it off.

Within the last year (2018) I have rediscovered my love of reading, in a big way!  I set myself a goal of 25 books on Goodreads and blew past it, now sitting at close to 50 books read in 2018.  To some, that might not seem like a lot, but to me, it’s incredible.

Now, I will confess that some of those books have been “read” via audiobooks, and at first I struggled with it because I didn’t feel like I was really absorbing the stories I was listening to in a way that made it easy to talk about them with friends.  However, as the year went on and I started participating in more reading challenges (more on that later) I simply had to utilities audiobooks in order to reach my goals.  I got more comfortable with them and now I really love them!  I’m still not going to get a subscriptions to any of those audiobook services yet, but the temptation is definitely there.

Let’s talk about those reading challenges, shall we.  I’m a big lover of YouTube, and at some point during my many lazy hours on the couch scrolling my “recommended viewing” section, I stumbled upon BookTube.  BookTube is a magical place within YouTube where people who love reading just sit down in front of a camera and talk about books!  I mean, really??  I never knew such loveliness existed among the vlogs and funny cat videos.  This started a whole new hobby for me, and may turn into another one all together.  Firstly, it got me reading again.  I no longer just spent time watching YouTube, but I made time to actually pick up a book. Then another, then another!  Before long I was in the habit of reading every day for at least an hour, which is way more than I have done in the last few years.  I am really pumped about that!

Now, we all know that this is the time of year for goal setting and boy do I have some goals!  I’ll stick to the bookish ones for now, so let’s have a rundown:

  1. Goodreads goal of 48 books.
  2. Re-read at least 1 book from my shelf every month
  3. Participate in at least 3 Read-a-thons (Middle Grade March, Victober, and Cloak & Dagger)
  4. Continue in some series that I started this year
  5. START A YOUTUBE/BOOKTUBE CHANNEL
Yeah, I’m a little freaked out about that last one, but I think I’m going to try it.  Would you watch it?  I plan to film a video (hopefully) sometime this week and hopefully have it up at the beginning of January, all about my favorite books of 2018 and elaborating on my goals for 2019.  I hope it works out!  I think it would be a fun new hobby... on top of all my other hobbies that I seem to accumulate.

Anyway, I hope you have a fantastic Christmas and New Years and maybe, just maybe, you’ll see my face on a screen early next year.

What are your reading goals for 2019?
